It’s a given that if you are a full-service florist that during the Mothers Day holiday you will busy.   The Mothers Day holiday is the most significant sales driven holiday in the floral industry with sales exceeding all other holidays including Valentine’s Day?  Last years Mothers Day sales were about  $23 billion according to the National Retail Federation.

With Mothers Day less than a month, away now is the time to make sure you have a strategic checklist.  Let’s dive right into 5 awesome tips on how to prepare for the Mothers Day holiday in your flower shop!

1. MOTHERS DAY FLOWER MARKETING:

You may think “I can’t start marketing now Mothers Day is less than a month away!” Well in actuality you can- marketing is super effective closer to the holiday consumers although some are very prepared most are last-minute shoppers.

Below find easy ways to market your flower shop without breaking your budget-

  • Update your floral website for Mothers Day! ( Be sure that Mothers Day page is visible and offer early bird incentives)
  • Showcase your Mothers Day products on Social Media use hashtags #.
  • Post your Mothers Day collections on Google My Business.
  • Post a post on Google My Business about your Mothers Day collections.
  • Create a Mothers Day Quiz. ( Post a Mothers Day Quiz on your blog and paste the url link to your social media-there are many free quiz software that allows you to do this)
  • Offer A  Mothers Day Give Away.

Personal Marketing Strategy Tip: The most successful marketing strategy I came up with for Mothers Day was an essay contest for the school system in my local community.  Mind you at the time I just wanted to do something fun and give back not even thinking this was marketing.

The school was for children with disabilities and I offered free flower arrangments for 3 months for the top students chosen by the school faculty to the person they most adored. The submitted essays with drawings were simply amazing and so heartwarming. This created such a buzz in my local community in which everyone came to support my flower shop during this  Mothers Day week and to follow. This was the best marketing idea I ever came up with! Not because of the increase sales well yes that helped too but because it truly made me feel good!

2. ORDER FLOWERS & SUPPLIES:

If you have not done so already be sure to order ample flowers and supplies for the upcoming Mothers Day week.  Do order a few different types of blooms, Mothers Day flowers are all about pretty.

  • Order unique containers and vases.
  • Specialty blooms if you can.
  • Blooming plants.
  • Dish Gardens, house plants, succulents, and air plants.
  • Order or make “Grab and Go” arrangements.
  • Have ample “Add-On” products. ( This can be greeting cards, candles, candies, chocolates,  home decor, soaps/bath products, and so on)

3. TRAIN/ HIRE STAFF:

I’m sure your current flower shop staff knows exactly how the shop is run and do a great job. However, it is always a good idea to go over scheduling, upgrades and add- on products and to be sure that everything runs perfectly the week of Mothers Day.

  • Review employee scheduling. ( Will you be open on Sunday what is expected)
  • Make your staff offer mandatory “add on” and “upgrades” to customers. ( This is absolutely hands down the best way to increase profits)
  • Train new hires, review with them their job descriptions if drivers will they be using their own vehicle and so on.
  • Give your staff a price list and names of flowers you don’t usually carry at the shop so they can offer good knowledgeable sales to your customers.

Everyone is drawn in by visually appealing merchandising. Your flower shop is no different. Be sure your flower shop is beautified to capture all your customer’s senses, take time with displays and have a captivating storefront window that screams Mothers Day.

  • Showcase a beautiful window display for passers-by. (Be creative think outside the box)
  • Clean your flower shop. ( Get rid of cobwebs, dust organize)
  • Create appealing merchandise displays.

5. HAVE A MOTHERS DAY SYSTEM:

It is good to be organized during Mothers Day Week. Be sure that you are dotting your I’s and crossing your T’s so that all runs smoothly.

  • Update your Mothers Day flower pricing. ( Be sure you are charging enough for your mothers days flowers do not undersell your self)
  • Start processing your Mothers Day flowers ahead of time.
  • Start designing  Mothers Day order 1-2 days ahead of time place in a cooler with correct tag, categorize by the delivery location and add drivers name that will take that route.
  • You can start greening vases even sooner than 1-2 days before delivery.
  • Bring in treats for your employees.
